Active Campaign: Clean Water, Phase 2

July 22, 2021 - The center has no running water and is in a drought-stricken part of Kenya. This means the girls and staff members typically must walk over 10 miles each day to find what little water is available, contributing to the competition with other communities and wildlife. The girls’ personal safety is often at risk during these long walks.

With the installation of a borehole, pump and water storage system, the center will be self-sufficient in water for our drinking, washing, cleaning, and cooking needs. In addition, the water will also be used for a vegetable garden so the girls have healthy food, since fresh vegetables are too expensive to eat often. Any extra produce will be sold in the local markets.

Together with Regrow (our US 501c3 partner) and With My Own 2 Hands (a US foundation) we have already raised about $20,000 to complete the first phase of the water project. Now, we are raising another $25,000 for the purchase and installation of the pumping and water storage system, as well as to support ongoing maintenance. We are grateful for any help you can provide!

It costs under $2 per day
to care for a girl in our center
and save her from sexual and
gender-based violence.

The Wamba Girls Rescue Center operates primarily through volunteers and the generous donations of people in our community, many of whom are also living in or near poverty. Some girls and staff make jewelry, bricks, and other goods to sell to support the center.

If you have the ability to help us, we would be so grateful for your donation, which allows us to:

  • Run our operations to ensure the health, safety, and education of our girls

  • Cover emergency medical costs for our girls

  • Send some of our girls to secondary school (high school)

We run a very cost-effective center and have a carefully-designed budget that supports the girls. Most of our staff members are volunteering their time. We work closely with our new nonprofit partners in the United States and Kenya, which we hope gives you additional confidence that your donation will be used responsibly to help our girls.

If you’d like to make a large donation, you may also contact us directly to discuss our more ambitious projects to expand our facilities to help many more girls who urgently need to be rescued and brought to the center.

Donations are processed by Regrow, our 501(c)(3) nonprofit partner in the United States.
100% of your donation (after credit card fees) is sent directly to us.
You donation may be tax-deductible, so please consult your tax advisor.
