We rescue girls to
give them a brighter future.

About Us

Wamba Girls Rescue Center is a registered NGO in Kenya founded in 2011 by Rebecca Lalmakar in response to the growing awareness of the negative impact of female circumcision in Kenya and the need to intervene in situations where girls were on the verge of being forcibly circumcised.

When we first began our work, we did not have a place for the 24 girls to stay after we rescued them, so they were housed by well-wishers in the community. Unfortunately, this was also not safe enough for the girls, so Rebecca and some of her friends built small rooms that could support about 36 girls. Since then, we have rescued over 120 girls and allowed them to complete their education so they may live happy, fulfilling lives.

Today, the younger girls live at our Center and attend primary and secondary schools. Some of the older girls are attending college.

Our team works closely with the community and the government. Rebecca is also a member of Namelok women’s group who voluntarily work together to help solve some of the toughest issues facing girls and women in Northern Kenya.

If you’re like to support our work, please consider making a donation.
